Hey, my name is Sam Shan. I’m very happy to be part of the team here at Split Decision MMA UK. I will be mainly focusing my interviews reviews and pieces around the North East scene. I’m sure that won’t be solely where my work lies but it will certainly be my base.
I’m about to embark on a multimedia journalism degree this year, at 27 it took me longer than most to find some direction in life and I’m now looking to get stuck in and catch up. I’ve been a fight fan for as long as I can remember and I used to watch boxing in my younger days. Me and my cousin would stay up all night to watch the likes of Lewis, Tyson, Bruno and Eubank. He fell in love and started training and has since represented Great Britain numerous times and is toying with the idea of turning professional.
I found MMA through one of the early UFC shows. I immediately loved the sport and realised it could, and most certainly would be huge. I then worked my way through every Pride event and the Pride days were great days, still some of the greatest fights of all time happened at Pride in my opinion. Years later my love for the sport is as strong, if not stronger than ever. I’ve trained some Thai, BJJ, wrestling and judo. I currently train BJJ and some Thai boxing. I’ve contemplated fighting many times and I think it’s something I would still like to do, but struggle with diet and finding the time needed to prepare for a fight. So that’s on hold for now, but not fully off the cards.
I’m looking forward to getting more in-depth knowledge of the UK scene and get insight from these great athletes. If there is anything you guys want to know, please feel free to get in touch:
