Animalistic MMA: Rise of the Alpha’s takes place tomorrow evening at the Guild Hall in Preston and competing on the card is Nikko Alonzo.
Nikko has been working hard towards the match up and fans can expect to see an exciting match up when he steps into the cage on the night.
Ahead of his match up, Nikko took some time out to offer his thoughts and allow us to get to know a bit more about his MMA development so far.
Thanks for your time Nikko. I wanted to start by asking about your time in MMA so far. What is it that first got you interested in learning all the different aspects associated with MMA?
“After watching a funny moments with Rampage Jackson video on YouTube I went to watch his highlight reel and thought that’s a cool as sport, so went online and looked for some classes and here I am”.
Once you started, what is it that made you want to compete?
“I just felt like after a year of doing lessons I kept telling myself and people that I did “MMA” but I knew it was never legit until I actually fought and then with my first training camp I realised just how tough it was and I enjoyed that challenge, because I’m stupid like that”.
Looking back on your time in the sport so far, what are some of the biggest things you have taken?
Training is the part that people wont see and will only see you when you compete. How much do you put into your training and what keeps you motivated to keep training?
“I put my fair share of time in. Early morning, late nights, twice a day, the usual. What keeps me training when I’m in a fight camp is the fear of not doing enough so that’s what motivates me and what keeps me training out of fight camp is the fear of getting fat haha”.
You train with a fine team, who have been some of the bigger influences on your development so far?
“No my team sucks, haha. They’re gonna kill me if they read this!”
Next up is Animalistic’s first show in Preston. How much are you looking forward to getting in there on the night?
“I’m excited to weigh in and eat. That’s pretty much all on my mind right now, but looking at what this show is offering I’m pretty impressed by it, they seem legit”.
How much do you know/have seen about your opponent on the night?
“I knows he’s fought a couple of times but I haven’t watched it really”.
Amateur MMA is all about developing and competing against other skilled competitors. Do you think your opponent will enable you to take away a lot from the fight?
“Like I said I don’t really know much about him, but I expect him to be pretty good and no one really goes through a fight camp and not take it serious.”
Are you hoping to have a lot of support on the night and how much does it mean to you to have people coming to cheer you on?
“I just had a car full of friends pull out on me so…good times! Haha”.
And finally, is there anybody you would like to thank/give a shout out to?
“I want to shout out James Riddings, he’s from Southern Bradford he created shout outs so I want to shout him out for giving me a chance to give shout outs! Oh and I guess my thanks to my team for pushing me!”
